Domain Registration Period For .UK Domains Extended To Ten Years

It was recently announced that Nominet, the manager of .uk domains, will allow .uk domain registrants the ability to renew their domain names for up to 10 years starting on May 1, 2012.

This change was made in order to offer more flexibility to domain registrants to allow longer periods of time between renewal dates.

Previously, .uk domains could only be registered for 2 year durations. Domain registrars will be allowed to offer .uk domains for whatever periods of time they’d like to offer, including one year registration and renewal periods.

Lesley Cowley, CEO of Nominet, said: “For millions of businesses, their domain name is mission critical – from their website to the email addresses it supports.  By offering longer registration periods, these businesses will have peace of mind that their domain name is secured for a number of years, and they won’t have to worry about renewing so frequently.”

Nominet, a non-profit organization,  is one of the largest domain registries with over 9 million domains names under management.
