‘RE:You Just Sent A Payment To …’ Paypal Scam Email Now Circulating

It’s been a while since I’ve reported on a Spam Email designed to fool recipients into clicking on a bad link, but today the tricksters didn’t let me down.

Today’s shifty Email purports to be sent from Paypal in regards to a ‘payment’ you recently sent.

The Subject line reads, “You Just Sent A Payment To Laura Peterson” or another variant like “Elliot Peterson

The full text of the message says:

You just sent a payment

Transaction ID: 2SM69324P0770102B


Hello heather,


Thanks for using PayPal. It may take a few moments for this transaction to appear in your account.

If you’ll notice, the “helpful links” (which I’ve circled in the included image) at the bottom of the message aren’t provided in standard English, which is a telltale sign that this Email is a fake with malicious intent. Don’t click on any of these links, unless you want to have a really bad computer day.

Further, if you got this message, be sure to forward a copy of it to “spoof@paypal.com” so they can investigate the issue.
