“Etrade Financial Urgent Notification – Message ID: 08367″ – Email Alert
With just a few hours left before the weekend officially begins, don’t let your guard down and fall for a bogus Email that purports to be sent fromĀ alertservice@etrade.com informing you of an alert upgrade.
The entire text of the Email reads:
Dear Customer,
The E*Trade technical department is performing alert upgrade to improve the security of our online banking notifications as part of our enhanced security measures. This is mandatory validation exercise for all E*Trade customers. During the database upgrading exercise we discovered a credit advice of a substantial inflow in your favor.
Please click here to log on and confirm your details to enable us upgrade and credit your account.
Thank you.
Unlike other phishing attempts currently in circulation, this Email provides one scammy link with a vague promise that there’s a ‘substantial credit inflow in your favor’ for recipients that click on it to confirm their account. If you carefully hover over the link provided, you’ll see the URL resolves to .co.kr and not E*Trade itself.
If you get this message in your inbox, be sure to delete the message immediately to avoid any computer complications caused by viruses or other types of malware it could contain, otherwise Monday morning is just going to be that much worse.
I hope that you found this post helpful and ask that you kindly share it with your friends and family, so they can avoid issues this could cause.
Thanks for stopping by and have a great weekend!
