It’s a fabulous ‘phishing’ Friday!

You know what that means, don’t you?

It means that crafty Email scammers are hard at work trying to get unsuspecting Email recipients to click on bogus links provided in a message with the subject line ‘Your Citi Credit Card Statement‘

The full text of the message reads,

Your Citi Credit Card statement is ready to view online
Dear Cardholder,

Your Citi Credit Card statement is now available for you to view online. Here are some key pieces of information from your statement:

Statement Date: May 10, 2012
Statement Balance: $4076.54
Minimum Payment Due: $2000.29
Payment Due Date: June 7, 2012
Want help remembering your payment due date? Sign up for automated alerts such as Payment Due reminders with Alerting Service.

To set up alerts sign on to www.citicards.com and go to Account Profile.

I prefer not to have this email contain specific information from my statement. Please send me just the announcement that my statement is ready to view online.

At first glance this electronic ‘bill’ might appear to be legitimate, but if you carefully hover over the links provided in the message, you’ll see they don’t actually resolve to a domain that has nothing to do with your Citi Account – if you even have one. If you get this message, be sure to immediately delete it to avoid catching a nasty computer virus to end your work week.
